A good read. It was different.  I did like the cover.  Great story. I liked Madges character. Read this very quickly which surprised me. 5*.

Blurb.

Born with a red mark emblazoned across her face, seventeen-year-old Madge is lonely as she spends her days serving guests and cleaning rooms in the inn her father keeps.

One day, she meets an unusual minstrel in the marketplace. Moved by the beauty of his song and the odd shape of his body, she realizes she has made her first friend. But he must go on to the next town, leaving her behind. Soon after, while she herself is singing in the woods, she is startled by a chance meeting with a stranger there. Though the encounter leaves her horribly embarrassed, it proves she need not remain unnoticed and alone forever.

However, this new hope is shattered when she overhears a few quiet words that weren’t intended for her ears. Heartbroken and confused, she flees her home to join the minstrel and his companion, a crass juggler. As they travel earning their daily bread, Madge secretly seeks to rid herself of the mark upon her cheek, convinced that nothing else can heal her heart.

Set in England in 1681, With Face Aflame is the tale of a girl who risks everything in hopes of becoming the person she desperately wants to be.

The town of Unity sits perched on the edge of a yawning ravine where, long ago, a charisma of angels provided spiritual succour to a fledgeling human race. Then mankind was granted the gift of free will and had to find its own way, albeit with the guidance of the angels. The people’s first conscious act was to make an exodus from Unity. They built a rope bridge across the ravine and founded the town of Topeth. For a time, the union between the people of Topeth and the angels of Unity was one of mutual benefit. After that early spring advance, there had been a torrid decline in which mankind’s development resembled a crumpled, fading autumnal leaf.

Following the promptings of an inner voice, Tula, a young woman from the city, trudges into Topeth. Her quest is to abide with the angels and thereby discover the right and proper exercise of free will. To do that, she has to cross the bridge – and overcome her vertigo. Topeth is in upheaval; the townsfolk blame the death of a child on dust from the nearby copper mines. The priests have convinced them that a horde of devils have thrown the angels out of Unity and now occupy the bridge, possessing anyone who trespasses on it. Then there’s the heinous Temple of Moloch!

A cherringham mystery book 1.
Really enjoyable read. Sarah and Jack were my favourite characters. I loved how they worked together. I’m looking forward to the next book. 5*.

Blurb.

On the night of the school prom, a young teacher is found dead in the Thames in a drug-related accident. It seems – at first – to be another sign that Cherringham High is spiralling out of control. The new head however is convinced that the teacher’s death is suspicious and quietly calls in Sarah Edwards.

With her one-time detective partner, Jack Brennan, back in America, Sarah is at first reluctant to take on the case. But when she does get involved, it soon becomes clear that the tragic accident might really be a case of murder – and even Sarah herself could be in danger…

Why do we always want the ones we shouldn’t?

Charlotte

Growing up around athletes means I’m mostly immune to their charms. Or lack thereof.

The looks, the smoking hot bodies, the cocky swagger don’t mean much to me and I can ignore any attraction I might feel.

There’s just one problem now. There’s one player that I can’t get out of my mind. After I put myself out there to take things to the next level, I don’t know how to act.

I’ve never felt this way before and it’s throwing me off.

King

I’m called King for a reason. I get what I want, when I want it with the snap of my fingers.

I’m happy with my life until her. One night and I discover what I’ve been missing.

Getting what I want shouldn’t be a problem. Except it is. For the first time in my life I’m forced to take matters into my own hands to convince her how good we would be together.

When the truth comes out and all the cards are on the table, I have to figure out if I can drop my walls for a real chance at happiness.

We have to decide if we can overcome our prejudices for a shot at happiness together.

The Knuckleball is book four in A.M. Williams’ “Boys of Summer” baseball romance series. It’s a best friend’s sibling romance with a cocky hero and a girl that takes no prisoners.

If you love men in tight pants and the sassy women they fall for, this series is for you.

This book was previously published as King of the Field. It has been updated with new content and re-edited.

The Marquess Method by Kathleen Ayers.
A very good read which was a little slow but readable. I loved Havens character but Theo I did find her annoying.  Good story. 4*.

Blurb.

Lady Theodosia Barrington is practically begging to be ruined.

That’s the assumption of the Marquess of Haven after spying Theodosia at a house party given by the Duke of Granby. After his father left him little else but a title and a crumbling estate, Haven is in desperate need of an heiress. Not only is Theodosia rich as Croesus and beautiful, but she’s also a Barrington. Her brother is Leo Murphy, owner of Elysium and the man Haven holds responsible for ruining his father.

Theodosia is the solution to all of Haven’s problems.

Lady Theodosia has long been infatuated with the Earl of Blythe. In an effort to prove her affection and perhaps induce him to offer for her, Theodosia paints a scandalous self-portrait of herself for Blythe as a birthday gift. The small token of affection is incredibly improper. Her behavior reckless.

She regrets gifting the miniature to Blythe immediately.

Desperate to save her reputation before it can be destroyed and escape humiliation, Theodosia makes another rash decision. Retrieve the miniature from Blythe’s study.

Except the miniature is gone. And the only thing waiting for her is the Marquess of Haven.

And her own ruination.
