We keep seeking a pastor we like, a church that offers wonderful music, an outreach mission we have an interest in, a theology we like, rules we agree with, a location not too far from our home and neighbors, and on it goes. We can become consumers rather than believers. Often it seems our relationship with God is determined by what our pastor or church or the latest new book about religion would tell us to do and less about us forming a direct relationship with God based on the solid rock of the teachings of Jesus in Scripture.
I felt it might be better for believers to raise up what unites us in following Jesus, rather than what divides us. Hence, this book was born. Its purpose is to provide a simple, solid foundation, based on Scripture, to live a truly exciting life, becoming more and more in the image of Christ.
We all want to find answers to two questions about our lives:
• What is our purpose?
• How should we live?
For Christians, the Westminster Catechism (shorter version) gives an excellent summary of our “final” chief and highest end:
“Glorify God and Fully Enjoy Him Forever.”
